GIT

Grupo de Investigação Territorial
/ Territorial Research Group

SCOPE

GIT develops research in support of communities threatened by land dispossession. We work specifically with community-based organisations and collectives that are resisting enclosures, extractivism, land grabbing, evictions, gentrification and environmental destruction, as well as related land-based processes. We provide technical and investigative support to help communities reclaim their lands and existential territories.

APPROACH

We make use of environmental architecture, social cartography and territorial listening methodologies. This allows us to integrate heterogeneous sources of knowledge and information about relations to land, as well as potential impacts.
We might conduct counter-investigations during the planning and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) consultation stages of extractive project, catalyse collective investigative processes regarding memories of land, produce visual evidence to support community-led legal challenges and develop community-led counter-planning proposals. We visualise modes of relations to land to increase public awareness. We also support research-based fundraising.
